Why 2nd July?

On 2nd July 1971, Queen performed with their classic four-piece line-up of Freddie Mercury, Brian May, Roger Taylor and John Deacon.

It marked John Deacon's first public live performance with the band and the beginning of the line-up that would go on to become one of the most beloved and influential groups in music history.

World Queen Day honours that moment - not simply as a milestone in Queen's story, but as the starting point of a musical legacy that continues to inspire, connect and unite people around the world.

More than fifty years later, Queen's songs remain a shared soundtrack for millions of people, crossing generations, cultures and borders. By celebrating on 2 July, we recognise both the history of the band and the extraordinary impact their music continues to have today.
